Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is the primary aviation hub serving Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, and the broader Pearl River Delta region. It replaced the original Baiyun Airport in 2004 and has grown rapidly to become one of the busiest airports in China and Asia. The airport serves as the main hub for China Southern Airlines, China's largest carrier by passenger volume, and handles an enormous mix of domestic and international traffic. It consistently ranks among the top ten busiest airports in the world by passenger numbers. A major expansion program, including a second terminal (T2) opened in 2018 and ongoing construction of a third terminal and additional runways, is designed to eventually accommodate over 120 million passengers annually, cementing Baiyun's role as a global mega-hub.
