In May 2020, Thai Airways filed for bankruptcy protection under Thailand's bankruptcy court as a result of severe financial losses exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline underwent a major restructuring process, reducing its fleet and workforce significantly, and resumed a scaled-back schedule of international flights during its rehabilitation period.
