The Airbus A319 is a narrow-body, single-aisle jet airliner developed as a shortened derivative of the A320. Seating typically between 120 and 160 passengers, it was designed to serve thinner routes and smaller markets while sharing high commonality with the A320 family, reducing airline training and maintenance costs. The A319 entered service in 1996 and quickly found favour with both full-service and low-cost carriers around the world. Its range capability also made it suitable for transatlantic operations by smaller airlines. The current production variant is the A319neo, featuring new-generation engines and sharklet wingtip devices for improved fuel efficiency. The A319neo entered service in 2018 and offers significantly reduced fuel burn compared to its predecessor. Despite being the smallest member of the A320 family, the A319 remains a versatile and commercially successful aircraft with operators across all major regions.
