Dragonair, officially known as Hong Kong Dragon Airlines, was a Hong Kong-based carrier that operated regional services across Asia for over three decades. Founded in 1985, the airline grew to become a significant player in connecting Hong Kong with destinations throughout mainland China and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Cathay Pacific acquired a majority stake in Dragonair in 2006, integrating the airline into its broader network while maintaining the Dragonair brand. The airline operated primarily out of Hong Kong International Airport, serving dozens of destinations across China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. In November 2016, Dragonair was rebranded as Cathay Dragon, retiring the Dragonair name after more than 30 years of operation. Cathay Dragon itself was subsequently shut down in October 2020 as part of restructuring measures by the Cathay Pacific Group during the COVID-19 pandemic.
