The Airbus A321 is the longest-fuselage member of the A320 family, stretched approximately 6.93 metres compared to the baseline A320. It entered service in 1994 and has become a popular choice for high-density short- to medium-haul routes worldwide, offering greater passenger capacity while sharing the same type rating as other A320-family aircraft.
The aircraft has evolved through several variants, including the A321ceo (Current Engine Option) powered by CFM56 or IAE V2500 engines, and the A321neo (New Engine Option) introduced in 2017, featuring CFM LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines for significantly improved fuel efficiency. The ultra-long-range A321XLR variant, capable of transatlantic operations, was also developed and entered service in 2024.
The A321's combination of capacity, range, and operating economics has made it one of the best-selling commercial aircraft in history. Its shared cockpit commonality across the A320 family reduces airline training costs and simplifies fleet management.
