Venice Marco Polo Airport is the primary international airport serving Venice and the surrounding Veneto region of northeastern Italy. Located on the mainland shore of the Venetian Lagoon near the town of Tessera, approximately 8 kilometres north of Venice, it handles a significant volume of leisure and business traffic drawn by Venice's status as a major global tourist destination. The airport is named after the famous Venetian explorer Marco Polo and is operated by SAVE S.p.A. Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air, ITA Airways, and Lufthansa are among the carriers with notable presence. Its unique setting adjacent to the lagoon means travellers can access Venice not only by road but also by water taxi and ferry, making the arrival experience distinctly Venetian.
