Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC/VGHS) is the largest and busiest airport in Bangladesh, serving as the main hub for international and domestic air travel into and out of Dhaka, the country's capital. Named after the 14th-century Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Jalal, the airport handles the vast majority of Bangladesh's international passenger and cargo traffic. The airport has undergone significant expansion over the years to cope with growing demand. A major third terminal project, designed to dramatically increase capacity, has been under construction and is intended to modernize facilities and handle tens of millions of passengers annually. The airport is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). Situated roughly 20 kilometers north of central Dhaka, the airport connects Bangladesh to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national carrier, is headquartered and primarily based here.
