The Embraer ERJ-145 is a 50-seat regional jet developed by Brazilian manufacturer Embraer, entering service in 1996. It is part of the ERJ family, which also includes the smaller ERJ-135 and ERJ-140 variants. The aircraft features a low-wing design with rear-mounted engines and was designed to replace aging turboprops on thin regional routes. The ERJ-145 became one of the most successful regional jets of its era, with over 700 aircraft delivered to airlines across multiple continents. Its fuel efficiency and reliability made it a staple of regional aviation networks, particularly in the United States and Europe. Though largely supplanted by the newer Embraer E-Jet family on many routes, a significant number of ERJ-145s remain in active service. Embraer also developed a military surveillance variant, the R-99, based on the ERJ-145 platform.
