It is one of the busiest airports in Zhejiang and handles a significant volume of both domestic and international passenger traffic, reflecting Wenzhou's status as a major commercial and manufacturing hub. The airport is located in the Longwan District, approximately 20 kilometres east of downtown Wenzhou. It operates a range of domestic routes connecting Wenzhou to major Chinese cities, as well as select international and regional routes serving destinations in East and Southeast Asia. A major expansion project has been underway to increase the airport's capacity, including plans for a new terminal and additional runway infrastructure to meet growing demand driven by Wenzhou's active business community and large overseas Chinese diaspora.
