Location
Alicante, Spain
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, coded ALC/LEAL, is one of Spain's busiest airports and serves as the primary gateway to the Costa Blanca region of southeastern Spain. Situated between the cities of Alicante and Elche, it handles tens of millions of passengers annually, driven largely by leisure and tourism traffic from across Europe. The airport was renamed in 2021 to honor Miguel Hernández, a celebrated Spanish poet born in Orihuela, near Alicante. It is managed by AENA, Spain's national airport operator, and features a modern terminal building opened in 2011 that consolidated operations from older facilities. The airport handles a large volume of low-cost carrier traffic, making it a key hub for budget travel to Spain's Mediterranean coast. Alicante-Elche serves destinations across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, with particularly strong connectivity to the United Kingdom, Germany, and other northern European markets. Its strategic location supports not only tourism but also business travel and cargo operations in the broader Valencia region.
Terminals
The airport operates a single modern terminal building (T1) opened in 2011, which replaced the previous terminal and consolidates all passenger operations under one roof.
Getting to & from
The airport is connected to Alicante city centre and the broader region by the TRAM (Line 3 metro/tram service), buses, and taxis, with the tram journey to the city taking approximately 25 minutes.
Airlines here
Major airlines operating here include Ryanair, Vueling, easyJet, Jet2, and Wizz Air, with Ryanair and easyJet among the largest carriers by volume.
