Kotoka International Airport (KIA) is the main international airport serving Accra, the capital city of Ghana. It is the busiest airport in Ghana and one of the most important aviation hubs in West Africa, handling millions of passengers annually. The airport is named after Lieutenant General Emmanuel Kotoka, a Ghanaian military officer who played a key role in the 1966 coup that overthrew Kwame Nkrumah. It is operated by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). A major Terminal 3 expansion opened in 2018, significantly increasing the airport's capacity and modernizing its facilities. KIA serves as a critical connection point for regional African routes as well as intercontinental flights to Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
