Air Namibia was the national airline of the Republic of Namibia, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services on domestic, regional African, and international long-haul routes. The carrier served as a key link between Windhoek and destinations across southern Africa, Europe, and other continents. The airline traced its roots to the South West Air Transport (SWAT) service established during the South African administration of Namibia, later restructured and rebranded following Namibian independence in 1990. It operated under state ownership throughout its existence and faced persistent financial challenges over many years. After decades of recurring losses and multiple government bailouts, the Namibian government announced the liquidation of Air Namibia in February 2021, citing unsustainable financial losses. The airline ceased operations shortly thereafter, marking the end of scheduled service by the national carrier.
