Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) is the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic and serves as the main international gateway to the capital, Santo Domingo. Located approximately 30 kilometers east of the city center in the Punta Caucedo area, it handles millions of passengers annually connecting the Caribbean nation to North America, Europe, and Latin America. The airport underwent significant modernization and expansion in the early 2000s, improving terminal facilities, runways, and passenger services. It is operated under a concession by Aerodom (Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI), which manages several airports across the country. Named after the Americas to reflect the Dominican Republic's geographic and cultural connections throughout the Western Hemisphere, SDQ serves as a hub for Arajet, the country's low-cost carrier, and receives flights from major international airlines year-round.
