TransAsia Airways was a Taiwanese airline founded in 1951, operating scheduled and charter passenger services across Taiwan and various destinations in East and Southeast Asia. The airline served as one of Taiwan's oldest carriers, competing alongside EVA Air and China Airlines on regional routes. The airline gained international attention for two fatal accidents in 2014 and 2015, which significantly damaged its reputation and financial standing. Flight GE235 in February 2015, which crashed into the Keelung River shortly after takeoff from Taipei Songshan Airport, was particularly devastating and captured worldwide media attention. Following mounting financial losses and the reputational damage from the accidents, TransAsia Airways announced the cessation of all operations on November 22, 2016, and dissolved shortly thereafter. The airline's closure left thousands of employees without work and stranded passengers requiring rebooking on alternative carriers.
