Simferopol International Airport (IATA: SIP, ICAO: UKFF) is the main airport serving Simferopol, the capital of Crimea, and the broader Crimean Peninsula. It has historically been the busiest airport in Ukraine outside of Kyiv, handling millions of passengers annually before major geopolitical disruptions. Following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, the airport's status became deeply contested. Ukraine and most of the international community continue to regard it as Ukrainian territory, while Russia has administered the facility under Russian aviation authorities. This has led to a near-total suspension of international flights recognized by ICAO and IATA, with only Russian domestic routes operating under Russian regulatory oversight. A new terminal building was inaugurated in 2018 under Russian administration, significantly expanding the airport's capacity. However, following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the airport was closed to civilian traffic and has remained non-operational for commercial flights.
