Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport is a regional airport located in Makinohara and Shimada cities in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Situated approximately 200 kilometers southwest of Tokyo, it serves as a convenient access point to the Shizuoka region and offers views of nearby Mount Fuji under clear weather conditions. The airport opened in 2009 after a lengthy development process and primarily handles domestic routes within Japan as well as select international routes to destinations in China and South Korea. Its construction was controversial due to concerns about flight path obstruction caused by tall trees on privately owned land, which required legal resolution before operations could begin. Though relatively small in scale, the airport supports regional economic activity and tourism in Shizuoka Prefecture, a region known for green tea production, the Izu Peninsula, and proximity to Mount Fuji.
