Tuscany's gateway airport serving the historic city of Florence.

Location
Florence, Italy
Florence Airport, officially known as Amerigo Vespucci Airport, is the main commercial airport serving Florence and the wider Tuscany region of Italy. It is located in Peretola, approximately 5 kilometres northwest of Florence's historic city centre. The airport is named after the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci, who was born in Florence. Despite its relatively compact size, the airport handles millions of passengers annually and connects Florence to numerous European destinations. It serves as an important hub for tourism to one of Italy's most visited cultural cities. The airport is operated by Toscana Aeroporti, which also manages Pisa's Galileo Galilei Airport. The airport has long faced constraints due to its short runway and urban surroundings, which limit the types of aircraft that can operate there and restrict its capacity for long-haul flights. Plans for a new runway and expanded facilities have been discussed for many years but have faced significant environmental and logistical challenges.
Terminals
The airport operates a single passenger terminal building that handles both domestic and international departures and arrivals.
Getting to & from
The airport is connected to Florence city centre by a dedicated tramway line (Tram T2), as well as taxis and bus services.
Airlines here
Major carriers include ITA Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Volotea, and several other European airlines offering regional and short-haul services.
Notable facts

  • Long-running debates over runway expansion have faced opposition from environmental groups concerned about the nearby Arno river wetlands.
