Marechal Rondon International Airport, officially serving Várzea Grande but operationally tied to Cuiabá, is the principal air gateway to the state of Mato Grosso in central-western Brazil. It handles both domestic and limited international traffic, connecting the region to major Brazilian hubs such as São Paulo and Brasília. The airport is named after Cândido Rondon, the celebrated Brazilian explorer and military officer who mapped much of the Amazon and Mato Grosso region. Its location makes it a key access point for travelers heading to the Pantanal wetlands, the Amazon basin, and the Chapada dos Guimarães national park. In recent years the airport has undergone infrastructure improvements to handle growing passenger volumes driven by agribusiness travel and ecotourism demand in the region.
