The airport plays a significant role in connecting Tamil Nadu to Gulf countries, making it an important hub for migrant workers traveling to destinations such as Dubai, Sharjah, Muscat, and Doha. It consistently ranks among the busiest airports in Tamil Nadu after Chennai.
