Seoul's historic domestic hub serving the capital region.

Opened
1939
Location
Seoul, South Korea
Seoul Gimpo International Airport, located in the Gangseo district of western Seoul, is one of South Korea's busiest airports and the primary hub for domestic air travel within the country. Originally the main international gateway to South Korea, it transferred most of its international operations to Incheon International Airport when that facility opened in 2001. Today, Gimpo handles a high volume of domestic routes, particularly the heavily traveled Seoul–Jeju corridor, one of the busiest air routes in the world. It also serves a limited number of international routes, primarily short-haul flights to Tokyo Haneda, Osaka Kansai, Beijing Capital, Shanghai Hongqiao, and Taipei Songshan, connecting major regional city centers. The airport is well integrated into Seoul's public transport network, with direct access via subway and AREX rail links, making it a convenient choice for both business and leisure travelers seeking quick connections across Northeast Asia.
Terminals
Gimpo operates two passenger terminals: the Domestic Terminal and the International Terminal, handling separate traffic flows for domestic and regional international flights.
Getting to & from
The airport is directly accessible by Seoul Metro Line 5 and the AREX airport rail link, with additional bus and taxi services connecting to central Seoul.
Airlines here
Korean Air and Asiana Airlines use Gimpo as a major domestic hub, while Air Busan, Jeju Air, Jin Air, and T'way Air also operate significant domestic services here.
Notable facts
  • The Seoul–Jeju route served by Gimpo is consistently ranked among the world's busiest air routes by passenger volume.
  • Gimpo served as South Korea's sole international airport until Incheon International opened in March 2001.
  • The airport was originally constructed during the Japanese colonial period in 1939.
  • International routes from Gimpo are limited to nearby major city airports under a city-pair agreement framework.
  • The airport is located approximately 18 km west of central Seoul in the Gangseo district.
