Queen Alia International Airport is the main international airport serving Amman, Jordan, and the largest airport in the country. Named after Queen Alia Al-Hussein, the wife of King Hussein who died in a helicopter crash in 1977, it handles the vast majority of Jordan's international passenger traffic. The airport underwent a major expansion and modernization program, with a new terminal designed by Foster + Partners opening in 2013. This development significantly increased the airport's capacity and improved passenger experience with modern facilities and architecture inspired by desert forms. Queen Alia serves as the primary hub for Royal Jordanian Airlines and connects Amman to destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. It is operated by Airport International Group (AIG) under a concession agreement.
