Location
İzmir, Turkey
Adnan Menderes International Airport is the primary commercial airport serving İzmir, Turkey's third-largest city, located in the Gaziemir district approximately 18 kilometres south of the city centre. It is named after Adnan Menderes, a former Prime Minister of Turkey who served from 1950 to 1960. The airport underwent significant expansion and modernisation in the 2000s and 2010s, including the opening of a new international terminal in 2006 and a new domestic terminal in 2014, greatly increasing its passenger handling capacity. It serves as an important hub for flights connecting the Aegean region of Turkey to domestic and international destinations. ADB handles tens of millions of passengers annually, driven in part by strong tourism demand to İzmir and the surrounding region, including popular destinations such as Ephesus, Çeşme, and Bodrum.
Terminals
The airport operates two main terminals — one dedicated to international flights and one to domestic flights — both managed under a single campus.
Getting to & from
The airport is connected to İzmir city centre by the İZBAN suburban rail service, with a station directly at the airport, as well as by taxis, shuttle buses, and car hire.
Airlines here
Turkish Airlines uses the airport as a domestic hub, while Pegasus Airlines, SunExpress (which is based at ADB), and numerous European carriers operate scheduled and charter services.
