Trieste Airport, officially known as Aeroporto Friuli Venezia Giulia, is the main international airport serving the Trieste metropolitan area and the broader Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy. Physically located in Ronchi dei Legionari, approximately 33 kilometres northwest of Trieste city centre, it serves both leisure and business travellers connecting to major European hubs. The airport handles a moderate volume of passengers annually and is served by a range of European carriers offering direct routes to Italian domestic destinations as well as international cities. Its location near the borders of Slovenia and Croatia gives it a cross-border catchment area that extends into the western Balkans. In recent years the airport has undergone infrastructure improvements to modernise its terminal facilities and expand its route network, reflecting the growing importance of the Trieste–Friuli region as a tourism and logistics destination.
