TravelerPulse profile

Milwaukee's primary commercial gateway serving southeastern Wisconsin.

Opened
1926
Location
Milwaukee, United States
General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is the largest airport in Wisconsin and the primary commercial aviation gateway for the Milwaukee metropolitan area and much of southeastern Wisconsin. Named after Brigadier General Billy Mitchell, a Milwaukee native and pioneering advocate for air power, the airport handles millions of passengers annually and serves as a regional alternative to Chicago's busier O'Hare and Midway airports. The airport is operated by Milwaukee County and sits approximately 6 miles south of downtown Milwaukee. Its relatively uncongested facilities and competitive fares have made it an attractive option for travelers in the greater Chicago-Milwaukee corridor. The facility includes both commercial passenger operations and a co-located Air National Guard base, the 128th Air Refueling Wing.
Terminals
The airport features a single terminal building with two concourses, Concourse C and Concourse D, housing all domestic and limited international gates.
Getting to & from
Ground transportation options include a Milwaukee County Transit System bus route, taxis, ride-share services, and rental cars available on-site, though no direct rail link connects the airport to downtown Milwaukee.
Airlines here
Major airlines serving MKE include Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Frontier Airlines, with Southwest operating the largest presence.
