Belfast International Airport (BFS/EGAA) is the largest airport in Northern Ireland and serves as a major gateway for both leisure and business travellers. Located approximately 18 miles northwest of Belfast city centre near Aldergrove, County Antrim, it handles millions of passengers annually across a wide network of domestic and international routes. The airport has roots as a Royal Air Force station, RAF Aldergrove, which operated alongside civil aviation for many years before the military presence was reduced. It is owned and operated by AGS Airports Ltd, which also manages Aberdeen and Glasgow airports. Belfast International competes with the smaller George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD), which is closer to the city centre. Despite this competition, Belfast International consistently handles the higher passenger volume and offers a broader range of long-haul and transatlantic services.
