The Fokker 70 is a twin-engine narrow-body regional jet developed by the Dutch manufacturer Fokker as a shorter derivative of the Fokker 100. It first flew in 1993 and entered airline service in 1994, offering airlines a smaller capacity option within the same aircraft family. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Tay turbofan engines, the Fokker 70 typically seats around 70 to 80 passengers in a single-class configuration. Its design shares a high degree of commonality with the Fokker 100, reducing training and maintenance costs for operators flying both types. Fokker ceased production in 1997 following the company's bankruptcy in 1996. Despite this, many Fokker 70s remain in service with regional carriers around the world, supported by specialist maintenance organizations that keep the type airworthy.
