Sevastopol International Airport, also known as Belbek Air Base, is located approximately 8 kilometers north of central Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula. It functions as both a military air base and a facility with limited civilian aviation capacity, reflecting its dual-use nature throughout its history. Following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, the airport's status became highly contested. Ukraine and most of the international community continue to regard it as Ukrainian territory under occupation. The facility has been used primarily for military purposes by Russian forces since 2014, and civilian commercial operations have been effectively suspended under international aviation restrictions. As a result of the geopolitical situation, major international airlines do not operate services to Belbek, and its IATA code UKS has been dormant for commercial purposes. The airport sustained damage during the Russia-Ukraine war that escalated in 2022.
