Teesside International Airport, designated by the IATA code MME and ICAO code EGNV, serves the Tees Valley region of Northeast England, including Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, and surrounding areas. Originally opened as RAF Middleton St George during World War II, the site was converted to civilian use after the war and has operated as a commercial airport ever since. The airport was rebranded as Teesside International Airport in 2019, dropping the previous name of Durham Tees Valley Airport, as part of a revitalization effort following a period of significant decline in passenger numbers and airline services. Tees Valley Combined Authority, led by Mayor Ben Houchen, took ownership of the airport in 2019 to secure its future. In recent years the airport has worked to rebuild its route network, attracting carriers such as Jet2.com and other operators offering seasonal leisure routes to European and domestic destinations. It remains a relatively small regional airport but plays an important economic role for the Tees Valley area.
