Location
Gwangju, South Korea
Gwangju Airport (IATA: KWJ, ICAO: RKJJ) is a domestic and limited international airport located in Gwangju, the largest city in southwestern South Korea. It serves as the primary commercial aviation hub for the Honam region, handling both civilian passengers and Republic of Korea Air Force operations, as the airport is a dual-use civil-military facility. The airport offers domestic routes primarily to Seoul's Gimpo Airport and Jeju Island, with occasional international charter flights. Passenger volumes are modest compared to major South Korean hubs, and the airport has faced competition from high-speed rail (KTX) services connecting Gwangju to Seoul, which has reduced domestic air travel demand. Plans have long existed to relocate Gwangju Airport to a new site outside the city, partly to allow urban redevelopment of the current land and to reduce noise impacts on surrounding residential areas. A new integrated airport for the region has been proposed in partnership with nearby South Jeolla Province.
Terminals
The airport has a single passenger terminal handling both domestic and limited international traffic.
