Historic urban airport serving Dallas with Southwest Airlines.

Opened
1917
Location
Dallas, United States
Dallas Love Field (DAL/KDAL) is a city-owned public airport located approximately 6 miles northwest of downtown Dallas, Texas. Originally opened in 1917 as a military training facility, it transitioned to commercial aviation and became one of the busiest single-runway urban airports in the United States. Love Field is most famously associated with Southwest Airlines, which was founded here in 1967 and continues to use it as a primary hub. The airport gained national historical significance as the site where President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in aboard Air Force One following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November 1963. For decades, operations at Love Field were restricted by the Wright Amendment, a federal law limiting interstate flights to surrounding states. The amendment was fully repealed in 2014, opening Love Field to nonstop flights across the continental United States and significantly expanding its role.
Terminals
The airport features a single modernized terminal with 20 gates, renovated and expanded as part of a major redevelopment project completed in 2014.
Getting to & from
Love Field is accessible by car via I-35E and Mockingbird Lane, and is served by DART bus routes, though it lacks a direct light rail connection to downtown Dallas.
Airlines here
Southwest Airlines dominates operations at Love Field, serving as its primary hub, with limited service from other carriers including Delta Air Lines.
