Cheyenne Regional Jerry Olson Field (CYS/KCYS) is the primary commercial airport serving Cheyenne, Wyoming, the state capital. Situated at an elevation of approximately 6,156 feet above sea level, it is one of the higher-elevation airports in the contiguous United States. The airport is named in honor of Jerry Olson, a longtime aviation advocate and former airport director who helped modernize the facility. It serves both commercial passengers and a significant volume of general aviation and military traffic, with the adjacent Francis E. Warren Air Force Base contributing to regional airspace activity. Due to Cheyenne's proximity to Denver, the airport competes with Denver International Airport for travelers willing to make the roughly 100-mile drive south. The airport has worked to attract and retain commercial air service to remain viable for the region.
