Air Greenland is the national carrier of Greenland, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services throughout the island as well as international routes to Denmark and Iceland. Founded in 1960, the airline is majority-owned by the Government of Greenland, with the Danish State and SAS also holding shares. Given Greenland's vast, sparsely populated terrain and lack of road infrastructure, Air Greenland plays a critical role in connecting remote communities that would otherwise be inaccessible. The airline operates a diverse fleet suited to both jet-served airports and shorter grass or gravel strips. Air Greenland's primary international gateway is Nuuk Airport, with its main hub in the capital city. The airline also offers helicopter services to settlements that cannot accommodate fixed-wing aircraft, making it one of the few carriers in the world to operate a significant helicopter network alongside conventional air services.
