Virgin America was a California-based low-cost carrier that operated from 2007 until 2018, known for its distinctive cabin design, mood lighting, and in-flight entertainment system. Founded under the Virgin Group brand with Richard Branson's involvement, it aimed to bring a premium yet affordable experience to the U.S. domestic aviation market. The airline was acquired by Alaska Airlines in 2016 for approximately $2.6 billion, and after a period of integration, the Virgin America brand was officially retired in April 2018. Routes and operations were fully absorbed into Alaska Airlines, which adopted some of Virgin America's customer-friendly innovations.
