The Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 (SSJ100) is a twin-engine regional jet developed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, a subsidiary of the United Aircraft Corporation, in collaboration with several Western partners including Alenia Aermacchi. It was designed to seat approximately 98 passengers in a single-class layout and serves short- to medium-haul routes, primarily within Russia and neighboring regions. The aircraft entered commercial service in 2011 with Aeroflot and represents Russia's first all-new civil airliner developed after the Soviet era. It features a supercritical wing, fly-by-wire flight controls, and a modern glass cockpit. The powerplant is the SaM146 turbofan, co-developed by Safran (Snecma) and Russia's NPO Saturn. The SSJ100 has faced significant challenges, including reliability and maintenance issues, parts supply difficulties, and a reduced operator base following Western sanctions imposed after 2022. Russia has been developing a re-engined, domestically sourced variant known as the Superjet New (SSJ-New or SJ-100) to reduce dependence on Western components.
