Staying in Zakynthos Town itself allows some walkability to restaurants, the waterfront, and the ferry port, but beach access still requires transport. Taxis are available but can be scarce during peak evening hours.

Families are well catered for across Tsilivi, Alykes/Alykanas, and parts of Laganas (though the latter's nightlife is a significant consideration). Self-catering apartments and studios suit families travelling with children, offering kitchen facilities and separate sleeping areas at reasonable cost. Many mid-range properties have pools. The Vasilikos Peninsula suits families seeking a quieter environment with access to clean, calmer beaches. Cots and extra beds should always be pre-requested; do not assume availability. All-inclusive resorts are present but not dominant on the island — most larger hotels operate on bed-and-breakfast or room-only bases.

Zakynthos does not have a developed serviced-apartment or aparthotel sector in the conventional sense. However, the island's large stock of privately owned studios and apartments, particularly in Zakynthos Town and the main resort areas, is well suited to stays of one to four weeks. Monthly or multi-week rates can often be negotiated directly with owners, especially outside peak season. Landlords in Zakynthos Town occasionally make apartments available for longer off-season lets (November–April) at substantially reduced rates through local Facebook groups and word of mouth rather than OTA platforms.
