Alert Airport (IATA: YLT, ICAO: CYLT) serves the Canadian Forces Station Alert on Ellesmere Island in Nunavut, Canada. Situated at approximately 82°31′N latitude, it is the northernmost airport in the world serving a permanent settlement, located just 817 kilometres from the North Pole. The airport primarily supports military and government operations, as CFS Alert functions as a signals intelligence gathering post operated by the Canadian Armed Forces. Passenger traffic is extremely limited and consists almost entirely of military personnel, government workers, and scientists rotating in and out of the station. The runway is unpaved gravel and capable of handling wheeled aircraft suited to Arctic conditions. Flights are infrequent and largely chartered or military in nature, with no scheduled commercial passenger service available to the general public.
