It operates alongside Changi Airport, Singapore's primary international hub, handling lighter traffic including private jets, charter flights, and turboprop regional routes. The airport sits on the site of the former RAF Seletar, a Royal Air Force base with roots dating back to 1928, making it one of Singapore's oldest aviation facilities. Its military heritage is preserved in the surrounding area, which has been redeveloped into an aerospace park. Seletar is home to the Seletar Aerospace Park, a dedicated hub for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations, as well as aerospace manufacturing. The airport plays a key role in Singapore's broader strategy to develop a world-class aerospace industry cluster.
