Ali Air Base, designated IATA code XNH and ICAO code ORTL, is a military airfield located near Nasiriyah in Dhi Qar Governorate, southern Iraq. The base was historically a significant Iraqi Air Force installation and saw action during multiple conflicts, including the Gulf War of 1991 and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. During the U.S.-led coalition operations following 2003, the base was used by coalition military forces and underwent various upgrades. It is not a major commercial passenger airport, and civilian airline operations there have been extremely limited or nonexistent in the modern era. The facility sits in a strategically important region of southern Iraq, near the ancient city of Ur and the Euphrates River valley. Its current operational status as a functioning airfield is primarily tied to Iraqi military and government use.
