New Tanegashima Airport (IATA: TNE, ICAO: RJFG) is a regional airport serving Tanegashima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, southern Japan. It replaced the original Tanegashima Airport and handles domestic flights connecting the island to the Japanese mainland. The airport is best known as the closest commercial airport to the Tanegashima Space Center, JAXA's primary rocket launch facility. Tanegashima Island is also famous for its history as the location where firearms were first introduced to Japan in 1543.
