Natal Air Force Base, designated SBNT and located in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, is a military airfield operated by the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira). Situated in the northeastern tip of South America, the base occupies a geographically strategic position as one of the closest points in the Americas to Africa. The base has deep historical roots dating to World War II, when it served as a critical Allied staging point for transatlantic ferry routes and anti-submarine patrols over the South Atlantic. Today it functions primarily as a military installation, though it shares airspace with the broader Natal aviation infrastructure that includes the newer Aeroporto Internacional Governador Aluízio Alves. As a dedicated military base, SBNT does not serve commercial passenger traffic and has no civilian airline operations. Its importance lies in its continued role supporting Brazilian Air Force operations in the northeastern region.
