Location
Sanaa, Yemen
Sanaa International Airport, also known as El Rahaba Airport, is the main international airport serving Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. Situated at an elevation of approximately 2,200 meters (7,200 feet) above sea level, it is one of the highest-altitude capital city airports in the world. The airport has experienced severe disruption due to the Yemeni Civil War that began in 2015. It was closed to commercial traffic for extended periods following airstrikes and blockades, with humanitarian and UN flights operating intermittently. Limited commercial operations have resumed at various points under ceasefire arrangements. Prior to the conflict, the airport served as a hub for Yemenia (Yemen Airways), the national carrier, and hosted flights from several regional and international airlines connecting Yemen to the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.
Terminals
The airport has a single main passenger terminal that handled both domestic and international traffic before the civil war severely disrupted operations.
Getting to & from
Road transport via taxi and private vehicles has been the primary means of connecting the airport to central Sanaa, located approximately 13 kilometers away.
Airlines here
Yemenia (Yemen Airways) has historically been the primary carrier based at the airport, with regional airlines such as flydubai, Air Arabia, and Egypt Air operating there before the conflict.
