Qayyarah West Airport is a military airfield located near the town of Qayyarah in the Ninewa Governorate of northern Iraq, situated roughly 60 kilometers south of Mosul. The airfield gained significant international attention during the 2016 campaign to retake Mosul from the Islamic State, when it was used as a key logistics and operations hub by Iraqi Security Forces and U.S.-led coalition forces. The airport was previously held by ISIS, who damaged infrastructure before being driven out. Coalition forces repaired the runway and facilities to support the Mosul offensive. The site has historically served military rather than civilian aviation purposes, and regular commercial passenger operations have not been established.
