Colombo Ratmalana International Airport (IATA: RML, ICAO: VCCC) is the oldest airport in Sri Lanka, located in the suburb of Ratmalana, approximately 13 kilometres south of central Colombo. It predates Bandaranaike International Airport and has historically served as the country's primary general aviation and domestic hub. The airport is operated by the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited and handles a mix of domestic scheduled flights, charter operations, air taxi services, and Sri Lanka Air Force activities. It has far less commercial traffic than Bandaranaike International Airport, which handles the bulk of international traffic to Sri Lanka. Ratmalana Airport has undergone periodic discussions regarding expansion and upgrading to relieve congestion at Bandaranaike International Airport, with plans at various times to develop it into a secondary international gateway for the Colombo metropolitan area.
