JASDF Matsushima Air Base (ICAO: RJST) is a military airfield operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, located near Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan. It serves as the home base of the Blue Impulse aerobatic display team, which flies the Kawasaki T-4 jet trainer aircraft. The base suffered significant damage during the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and resulting tsunami, which destroyed or damaged most of the aircraft stationed there at the time. Recovery and reconstruction efforts followed in subsequent years. As a dedicated military installation, Matsushima Air Base does not serve commercial passenger traffic. It is primarily known domestically and internationally for hosting airshows and being the permanent home of Japan's premier aerobatic team.
