JMSDF Kanoya Air Base (ICAO: RJFY) is a military airfield operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, located near the city of Kanoya in Kagoshima Prefecture, on the Ōsumi Peninsula of southern Kyushu, Japan. It serves as a major operational base for JMSDF maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The base has deep historical roots, having originally served as an Imperial Japanese Navy air base during World War II and playing a significant role in kamikaze operations late in the war. Today it hosts JMSDF patrol squadrons equipped with aircraft such as the Kawasaki P-1 and P-3C Orion, conducting surveillance and maritime security operations over the surrounding seas. The base is not open to commercial passenger traffic and has no public terminal facilities. It is a restricted military installation, and civilian access is strictly controlled.
