It is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the United States and serves primarily corporate, charter, and private aircraft operations. The airport is jointly owned and operated by the cities of Prospect Heights and Wheeling. It features two runways and offers full fixed-base operator (FBO) services, making it a preferred alternative to O'Hare and Midway for business travelers and private aviation users. Formerly known as Palwaukee Municipal Airport, the facility was rebranded as Chicago Executive Airport in 2011 to better reflect its role serving the greater Chicago metropolitan area's executive and corporate aviation market.
