Slovenia's coastal gateway on the Adriatic shore.

Opened
1969
Location
Sečovlje, Slovenia
Portorož Airport (IATA: POW, ICAO: LJPZ) is a small regional airport located near Sečovlje in southwestern Slovenia, close to the coastal resort town of Portorož on the Gulf of Piran. It serves the Slovenian Istria region and provides access to the broader Adriatic coastline shared with Croatia and Italy. The airport handles limited scheduled and charter traffic, primarily during the summer tourist season, with general aviation and flight training operations active year-round. Its short runway restricts operations to smaller turboprop and light jet aircraft. Despite its modest size, Portorož Airport plays a role in regional connectivity for the Slovenian coast, complementing larger nearby airports such as Trieste Airport in Italy and Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport.
Terminals
The airport has a single small terminal building capable of handling limited passenger volumes, suited primarily to seasonal charter and general aviation traffic.
Getting to & from
Ground access to Portorož and surrounding coastal towns is available by road via taxi and private vehicle, with no dedicated public rail or bus link directly to the terminal.
Airlines here
No major scheduled airline maintains a permanent base or hub at Portorož; operations consist mainly of seasonal charter flights and general aviation.
Notable facts
  • The runway is approximately 1,490 meters long, limiting operations to smaller aircraft.
  • The airport is located near the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park, a protected wetland area.
  • Portorož is one of only two civilian airports in Slovenia, alongside Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport.
  • The airport is a base for flight training and aeroclub activities.
  • Its proximity to the Italian border makes Trieste Airport a common alternative for regional travelers.
