Island gateway serving the volcanic isle of Pantelleria.

Opened
1939
Location
Pantelleria, Italy
Pantelleria Airport (IATA: PNL, ICAO: LICG) is a small regional airport located on the island of Pantelleria, a volcanic island in the Strait of Sicily administered as part of the Province of Trapani, Italy. It serves as the primary and only air access point to the island, connecting it to mainland Italy. The airport handles predominantly domestic traffic, with seasonal services to major Italian cities. It is especially busy during the summer months when tourism to the island peaks. Alitalia and its successors, as well as regional carriers such as Neos and DAT (formerly Air Dolomiti routes), have operated flights here. Due to the island's volcanic terrain and the airport's relatively short runway, operations are subject to specific weight and size restrictions, limiting service to smaller regional aircraft. The facility is managed under ENAC, Italy's civil aviation authority.
Terminals
The airport has a single small terminal building handling both arrivals and departures for its limited passenger volume.
Getting to & from
Taxi services and rental cars are available at the airport to connect passengers to Pantelleria town and other parts of the island.
Airlines here
ITA Airways and seasonal charter operators have provided the primary air links between Pantelleria and mainland Italian cities such as Rome and Milan.
Notable facts
  • Pantelleria is closer to Tunisia (about 70 km) than to mainland Sicily (about 100 km).
  • The airport's runway is approximately 1,850 meters long, restricting use to smaller aircraft.
  • The island is known as the 'Black Pearl of the Mediterranean' due to its volcanic rock.
  • The airport is managed under Italian civil aviation authority ENAC.
  • Pantelleria is a UNESCO-recognized agricultural landscape famous for its Zibibbo grapes.
