Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX/ZBAD) is a massive international gateway located in the Daxing district of Beijing, straddling the border of Beijing and Hebei province. Designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid and opened in September 2019, the airport was built to relieve capacity pressure from the existing Beijing Capital International Airport. The terminal building is renowned for its distinctive starfish-shaped design and is one of the largest single-structure airport terminals in the world, covering approximately 700,000 square meters. It was constructed in roughly four years and is capable of handling 72 million passengers per year at full capacity. Daxing serves as a hub for China Southern Airlines and Beijing Capital Airlines, among other carriers. It is equipped with advanced baggage handling, facial recognition technology, and seamless connectivity to central Beijing via high-speed rail.
