Cairns Army Air Field, designated IATA code OZR, is a military airfield located at Fort Rucker (now officially renamed Fort Novosel) near Ozark, Alabama. It serves as the primary flight training installation for the United States Army and is home to the Army Aviation Center of Excellence, making it one of the busiest helicopter training facilities in the world. The airfield supports a vast fleet of military rotary-wing aircraft used for initial entry and advanced rotary-wing training. Thousands of Army aviators have earned their wings at Cairns, cementing its status as the spiritual home of U.S. Army aviation. The field is named after Major William Cairns, an Army aviator who died in a training accident. As a military installation, Cairns does not serve commercial passenger traffic. The nearest commercial airport serving the region is Dothan Regional Airport in Dothan, Alabama. Public access to the airfield is restricted to authorized military personnel and approved visitors.
